Move Out Cleaning Checklist for Toronto Tenants
Moving out of a Toronto apartment or condo usually ends with a landlord walkthrough. The cleaner the unit, the smoother that walkthrough goes. Here is the room by room checklist our team works from on move out cleans across Toronto and the GTA.
Before the cleaners arrive
Empty every cabinet, closet and the fridge
Keep water and electricity on until the clean is finished
In a condo, book the elevator and share fob, parking or lockbox details
Remove garbage and boxes so every floor is reachable
Kitchen
Wipe cabinet fronts and the inside of empty cabinets
Degrease the stovetop, range hood and backsplash
Clean inside the fridge and freezer
Clean inside the oven
Wipe the microwave inside and out
Scrub and shine the sink and faucet
Sweep and mop, including along the baseboards
Bathrooms
Scrub the tub, shower walls and glass
Clean and disinfect the toilet, including the base
Wipe the vanity inside and out
Clean mirrors and fixtures
Mop the floor and wipe the baseboards
Bedrooms and living areas
Dust ceiling fans, light fixtures and vents
Wipe baseboards, door frames, switches and handles
Spot clean scuffs on walls
Wipe window sills, frames and tracks
Vacuum closets and carpets, then mop hard floors
The spots landlords check first
Walkthroughs tend to focus on the oven, the inside of the fridge, bathroom grout, baseboards and window tracks. These areas collect buildup that a regular clean does not reach, so give them extra time.
Do it yourself or book a professional?
Once packing is done, a thorough move out clean of a one bedroom condo can take one person most of a day.
